Well, it's been a while since we've been at the camp so that I could blog....but here we are.
We have had quite the ride since we left home!! Very much a rollercoaster ride! Our flights went well. And we met up with the other group shortly after we got here. Then we spent the rest of that day in Olde Town Warsaw. What a beautiful city! It was bombed by the Nazis, but then rebuilt pretty much the same as it was. Then got to the camp around 10p.m. We had to find our cabin IN the dark...and move in on these girls who had already been there for the week. All their stuff was EVERYWHERE because they had a MOUSE in the cabin they were trying to find!!! YIKES!! Needless to say, I didn't sleep much that night, because of that mouse!!! So, in the 1st two nights we've been here, I've had about 6 hours of sleep....and I'm not tried yet!!! I'm sure it will catch up with me.
Then Saturday morning, we met at the bus to tour Aschwitz. What an incredible experience. To put it into words would cheapen the whole thing!! IT wasn't exciting, not cool......but important to experience when in the area. We watched a video that told about what all took place there....from that point on, I was nauseasated until we left. Amazing to think of our freedom and acceptance for who we are!!
After that, we spent the afternoon in Krakow!! This is the most beautiful city in all of Poland. And because of it's beauty, the Nazis did not destroy it. They wanted to use the city for themselves when it was all said & done. So, all the buildings are very old with all the ornate details you think of with European architecture, My new friend, Maddie, and I spent the day taking in all the sights.....shops, street performers, street vendors. And for lunch I had a Polish sausage wrapped in fresh bread!! The Polish are very big on their bread! It's at EVERY meal even when there is nothing else!! Can't go wrong with that, huh!!!
To get back to the camp, we took a 31/2 hour train ride!! That was fun....again very European. We got to the train station around 12:30a.m. Then had about 45 minute drive to the camp. Again when we got to the camp, we had to look for new housing, in the dark, with girls sleepin all over!! But finally, I slept!! And I actually feel rested this morning.
We are headed to church this morning. I'm looking forward to experiencing that in Polish.
We start camp today, also. We found out when we got here, that Brian Sites, the band leader is not able to make the trip. And SOOOOO, asked if I would help lead worship, play the keyboard, etc. I'm pretty excited about that...but also a little nervous. But God wil be with me & give me what I need at the right moment.
THanks for reading.....I think I'll have more opportunities to blog more often from here on out!
